A charger or generator is only one part of the job. The right choice depends on the panel, available service capacity, wire route, mounting location, disconnects, transfer equipment, Wi-Fi or load-management needs, and whether the work is in a house, condo, rental property or commercial site.

Most Level 2 chargers look similar online, but the field details matter. Hardwired units, plug-in units, outdoor ratings, cable length, amperage settings, app setup and load-sharing features can change the quote and the installation plan.

If the charger is going in a condo parking space, the product choice is only part of the approval path. A standby generator must be matched to the loads it will carry and connected through approved transfer equipment. The installation plan has to account for service size, automatic transfer switch location, gas coordination, clearances, grounding and ESA inspection.

Permits and inspection are part of the product decision

In Ontario, installing a new EV charger circuit or generator connection is not just an appliance hookup. Where required, City Power files the ESA notification and the work is inspected.
