How much does a 200 amp panel upgrade cost in Ontario?
A 100A-to-200A panel upgrade in the GTA typically costs $3,200–$4,500 including the panel, labour, ESA permit, and inspection. Upgrading from a 60A fuse panel runs $4,000–$6,000 because the service entrance and meter base usually need replacement too.
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Common signs include breakers that trip frequently, a panel that's warm to the touch, no free slots for new circuits, a 60A or 100A service in a home with central AC or an EV charger, or an insurance company flagging your fuse panel. A licensed electrician can confirm with a load calculation.
Does a panel upgrade require an ESA permit?
Yes. In Ontario every panel upgrade must be filed with the Electrical Safety Authority and inspected. We file the ESA notification, coordinate the utility disconnect/reconnect, and provide the certificate of inspection — which your insurer and future home buyers will want to see.
