Aluminum wiring expands and contracts more than copper, which loosens connections over time and creates heat points that can start fires. The Canadian Electrical Code allows aluminum wiring to remain if properly remediated. We use approved AlumiConn connectors or COPALUM crimps at every connection point — switches, outlets, fixtures, and panel. This is far more affordable than a full rewire and satisfies insurance requirements.

Is aluminum wiring safe if it's been pigtailed?
Yes. The Electrical Safety Authority recognizes copper pigtailing with approved connectors (AlumiConn or COPALUM) as a safe, permanent remediation. The fire risk comes from aluminum's expansion at connection points — once every connection is remediated and inspected, insurers will cover the home.
Will insurance cover a house with aluminum wiring in Ontario?
Most insurers require proof of remediation — an ESA inspection certificate showing the aluminum connections were pigtailed by a licensed electrical contractor. We provide that documentation with every aluminum remediation job, which typically satisfies insurer requirements.
