Best EV Chargers for Home in Canada (2026 Picks)

By Sam · April 7, 2026

Choosing an EV charger for your Canadian home means considering factors that don't apply in warmer climates — like whether the charger will work reliably at minus 30. I'm Sam from City Power Electrical Services (ECRA/ESA #7015314), and I install every major brand of EV charger across the GTA. Here are my honest recommendations for 2026.

Before the reviews, a quick note on what to look for. You want a Level 2, 240V charger with at least 40 amps of output. Look for a charger rated for outdoor use if it won't be in a garage. In Canada, it must be CSA or cUL certified (some chargers sold online are only UL certified for the U.S. market and may not meet Ontario ESA requirements). A cable length of at least 7.5 metres (25 feet) gives you flexibility for different parking positions.

Grizzl-E Classic. Price: approximately $500 to $550 CAD. Amperage: 40 amps (9.6 kW). Cable length: 7.3 metres (24 feet). The Grizzl-E is designed and assembled in Ontario, Canada — right in Kitchener. That alone earns it consideration, but the product stands on its own merits. It's built like a tank with a NEMA 4 enclosure rated for outdoor use in Canadian winters. It works from minus 30 to plus 50 degrees Celsius. It's a no-frills, reliable charger with no WiFi, no app, and no subscription fees. You plug it in, it charges. The build quality is excellent and the price is hard to beat.

Who it's best for: Homeowners who want a simple, reliable, affordable charger and don't need app-based scheduling or monitoring. The Grizzl-E Smart (around $650) adds WiFi and app connectivity if you want those features.

ChargePoint Home Flex. Price: approximately $700 to $900 CAD. Amperage: Adjustable from 16 to 50 amps (up to 12 kW). Cable length: 7 metres (23 feet). The ChargePoint Home Flex is one of the most versatile chargers available. Its adjustable amperage means it can be installed on a 40-amp, 50-amp, or 60-amp circuit, and you can change the amperage setting without an electrician. The built-in load management capability (when paired with a ChargePoint Load Management device) can allow installation on a panel that would otherwise not have enough capacity.

The app is polished and provides charging history, energy usage, scheduling, and real-time notifications. It's also compatible with utility demand response programs, which may offer incentives for shifting charging to off-peak hours. ChargePoint is UL and CSA certified.

Who it's best for: Homeowners who want flexibility, smart features, and the ability to adjust amperage. Particularly good for homes with limited panel capacity where load management is needed.

Tesla Wall Connector. Price: approximately $650 CAD. Amperage: Up to 48 amps (11.5 kW). Cable length: 5.5 metres (18 feet) or 7.3 metres (24 feet). The Tesla Wall Connector is the obvious choice for Tesla owners. It supports the highest charging speeds for Tesla vehicles and integrates seamlessly with the Tesla app for scheduling and monitoring. It can also charge non-Tesla EVs with the included or available J1772 adapter.

One practical note: the standard cable length of 5.5 metres (18 feet) is shorter than most competitors. If your charging location is far from the mounting point, get the longer cable option. The Wall Connector is rated for outdoor installation and handles Canadian temperatures well.

Who it's best for: Tesla owners, obviously. The tight integration with Tesla's ecosystem is the main advantage. If you have a non-Tesla EV, one of the other options may be a better value.

Emporia Smart Level 2. Price: approximately $550 to $650 CAD. Amperage: 48 amps (11.5 kW). Cable length: 7.3 metres (24 feet). Emporia is known for energy monitoring products, and their EV charger brings that expertise. The charger integrates with the Emporia Vue energy monitor (sold separately) to provide whole-home energy visibility. The charger itself is well-built, offers 48-amp charging, and has a good app for scheduling and monitoring.

Who it's best for: Homeowners interested in monitoring their overall home energy usage alongside EV charging. Good value for the features offered.

Wallbox Pulsar Plus. Price: approximately $800 to $1,000 CAD. Amperage: Up to 48 amps (11.5 kW). Cable length: 7.6 metres (25 feet). The Wallbox Pulsar Plus is compact (roughly the size of a toaster) and well-designed. It offers power sharing between two chargers (useful if you have two EVs), app-based scheduling, and integration with home solar systems. The app is full-featured and the charger supports bidirectional charging (V2H — vehicle to home) on compatible vehicles, which is a future-looking feature.

Who it's best for: Homeowners who want a compact, feature-rich charger with power sharing capability for two-EV households or future V2H integration.

FLO Home X5. Price: approximately $900 to $1,100 CAD. Amperage: 30 amps (7.2 kW). Cable length: 7.6 metres (25 feet). FLO is a Canadian company based in Quebec, and they operate one of the largest public charging networks in Canada. Their home charger is well-built and reliable with excellent cold weather performance (rated to minus 40). However, at only 30 amps, it charges more slowly than the 40-amp and 48-amp competitors. The higher price for lower amperage makes it less competitive on a value basis.

Who it's best for: Homeowners who want a Canadian-made product with proven cold weather performance and don't need the fastest charging speeds.

My top picks. Best overall: Grizzl-E Classic (or Smart) for the combination of Ontario-made quality, reliability, Canadian-winter durability, and unbeatable price. Best for smart features: ChargePoint Home Flex for the adjustable amperage and load management. Best for Tesla owners: Tesla Wall Connector for native integration.

A note on installation. Whichever charger you choose, installation must be done by a Licensed Electrical Contractor in Ontario, and an ESA inspection is required. A quality installation ensures the charger performs safely and reliably for years.
