About lighting & pot lightsAppliance circuit installation gives a new or upgraded appliance the correct dedicated power before delivery, cabinet closing or renovation completion. We install kitchen, laundry and mechanical appliance circuits across Toronto and the GTA.

A proper appliance circuit starts with the appliance nameplate and installation manual, not a guess at the panel. We check the voltage, amperage, plug type, hardwire requirement, overcurrent protection, location, ventilation clearances and any manufacturer instructions before selecting the breaker, conductor size, box and receptacle.
That matters because delivery crews often refuse to connect an appliance when the receptacle is missing, the plug does not match, the circuit is shared, or the breaker size is wrong. A cabinet installer can also bury the easiest wiring path if the electrical work is left until the end.
Common appliance circuit installation work includes dedicated power for:
For cooking equipment with higher loads or specific manufacturer instructions, see our stove and oven circuit installation page. For large electric water-heating equipment, see our tankless water heater circuit service.
The work may be simple when the panel is nearby and the basement ceiling is open. It can be more involved when the route crosses finished ceilings, tiled backsplashes, concrete walls, tight condo kitchens or full-height cabinets. We plan the route before cutting, protect finished surfaces as much as possible, and leave the area cleaned up.
You likely need appliance circuit installation when a new appliance manual calls for a dedicated circuit, when a renovation moves the appliance location, or when an existing outlet is shared with countertop plugs, lights or another motor load.
We often see problems when a dishwasher and garburator share an old kitchen circuit, a freezer is plugged into a garage outlet already serving tools, or a built-in microwave is added to a general receptacle circuit. These setups may work briefly, then trip when motors start, heating elements cycle, or another appliance is used at the same time.
A dedicated circuit is also common before appliance delivery. If the cabinetry is being installed, we want the electrical roughed in before the back panels, fillers and stone counters make access difficult. For a kitchen renovation, this timing is as important as the breaker size.
Signs to call before the appliance arrives include:
If the work is part of a broader circuit plan, our dedicated circuits page explains the general approach for individual loads throughout the home. If the panel is crowded or the appliance project is one piece of a larger renovation, a subpanel installation may be the cleaner long-term option.
In Ontario, adding a new appliance circuit or altering panel wiring usually requires an ESA notification. City Power Electrical Services is a Licensed Electrical Contractor, ECRA/ESA #7015314, and we file ESA notifications where required. The work is then available for inspection under the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
For appliance circuits, the inspection focus is practical: the breaker must match the conductor and appliance load, the cable must be protected from damage, the receptacle or junction box must be suitable and accessible, grounding and bonding must be correct, and GFCI or AFCI protection must be installed where the OESC requires it.
Kitchen and laundry locations deserve special attention because moisture, cabinetry, moving appliances and tight clearances can hide poor work. A dishwasher circuit may need a junction box or receptacle placed where it remains accessible. A fridge receptacle should be positioned so the appliance can be pushed back without crushing the cord. A freezer circuit should be labelled clearly so it is not accidentally shut off during other work.
Breaker type also matters. Some appliances need standard overcurrent protection; others may require GFCI protection depending on location and current code rules. We match the device to the installation instead of simply reusing an open breaker space.
Panel capacity is checked before we add the circuit. A single small appliance circuit may be straightforward, but several new kitchen, laundry and mechanical loads can change the picture. If the panel is full, damaged, poorly labelled or already overloaded, we explain the options before proceeding.
The best time to call is before the appliance is delivered and before cabinets are fully closed in. We can work from the appliance specification sheet, the cabinet drawings or the site conditions. If the exact appliance model is not final, we can rough in based on the likely requirement, but the final connection must still match the actual appliance.
A typical visit starts with confirming the appliance location, checking the panel, identifying a wiring route and reviewing any finished surfaces that may need access. We then install the breaker, run the correct cable, mount the box, install the proper receptacle or hardwired connection, label the panel and test the circuit.
If an ESA notification is required, we include it in the job process and coordinate the inspection. We do not leave you guessing about whether the work was permitted. We also clean up at the end of the job.
Cost depends mainly on amperage, distance from the panel, access through finished walls or ceilings, and whether the panel has space. A typical 20A dedicated circuit from the panel costs $250–$500 depending on the distance and finish of walls along the route. Heavier 30A–50A circuits run $400–$900. If the appliance circuit is unusual or part of a larger renovation, it is quoted in writing after a site visit.
City Power Electrical Services is founded and run by Sam, a licensed electrician with fifteen-plus years in the trade. We provide free written estimates, 24/7 emergency service, and appliance circuit installation across Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and the GTA. Yes. That is often the best timing. Send the appliance model number or installation sheet before the visit, and we can confirm the voltage, amperage, plug or hardwire requirement, breaker size and receptacle location. If cabinets or counters are being installed, call early so the wiring route is not blocked.
We can inspect the existing outlet, compare it with the appliance requirements, and correct the circuit if needed. Common issues include the wrong voltage, wrong receptacle style, shared circuits, missing GFCI protection where required, poor grounding, or a breaker that does not match the wire size.
Adding a new circuit or changing panel wiring usually requires an ESA notification in Ontario. City Power Electrical Services files ESA notifications where required, completes the work to the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and arranges inspection when applicable. The finished circuit is labelled and tested.
A typical 20A dedicated circuit from the panel costs $250–$500 depending on distance and wall access. Heavier 30A–50A circuits run $400–$900. If the route is complex, the panel is full, or the appliance has unusual requirements, we quote the work in writing after a site visit.
